Glutathione

Glutathione is a naturally occurring tripeptide made up of L-γ-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine. It exhibits a variety of biological activities, including scavenging reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, participating in glutathione-dependent conjugation of electrophiles and xenobiotic compounds, and preserving cellular redox balance.

There are two forms of glutathione: reduced (GSH) and oxidized (GSSG). The ratio of these forms is a crucial measure of the oxidative state of cells. The peptide works by directly scavenging reactive oxygen species, conjugating harmful substances for removal, and regenerating additional antioxidants such as vitamins C and E.
