Matrixyl (palmitoyl-pentapeptide-4, KTTKS) is a synthetic peptide used in cosmetic and dermal research to study skin extracellular matrix processes. The palmitoyl lipid chain increases lipophilicity, improving formulation stability and skin interaction in topical applications.
In in vitro fibroblast and skin model studies, it has been associated with increased synthesis of extracellular matrix components, particularly collagen I and collagen III, along with other matrix-related markers. It is a well-studied ingredient within cosmetic peptide research, with most evidence derived from laboratory and ex vivo models rather than large-scale clinical trials.
Further structure-activity investigations have evaluated how the palmitoyl modification influences cell culture models.
