Melatonin

Melatonin is a neurohormone that may support antioxidant defence mechanisms through the regulation of antioxidant enzymes and modulation of oxidative and nitric oxide-related signalling pathways. It is also recognized as an endogenous antioxidant due to its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. 

Melatonin functions as an agonist of the MT1 (MEL-1A-R) and MT2 (MEL-1B-R) receptors. It contributes to the regulation of circadian rhythms and other neurophysiological processes.

• Investigation of circadian rhythm regulation, sleep-wake cycle mechanisms, and neuroendocrine signalling pathways.
• Research into melatonin biosynthesis from the essential amino acid L-tryptophan and the influence of β-adrenergic signalling on melatonin production and secretion.
• Exploration of the role of melatonin in apoptosis regulation and cell survival pathways in immune and neuronal research models.
• Studies investigating the effects of melatonin on cellular proliferation, migration, and intracellular signalling pathways in experimental cancer research models, including pathways involving Rho-associated kinase (ROCK) proteins.
