Follistatin

Originally identified through its role in regulating follicle-stimulating hormone activity, Follistatin is now recognized as a multifunctional protein expressed throughout numerous tissues in the body. Scientific interest in Follistatin has expanded due to its ability to bind and inhibit activin and myostatin, two signalling molecules involved in cellular growth, differentiation, and tissue regulation.

Experimental studies have explored Follistatin’s involvement in muscle cell signalling, growth factor modulation, and gene expression pathways associated with tissue development and regeneration. 

Current research continues to evaluate Follistatin’s molecular behaviour, receptor-independent regulatory functions, and interactions with activin- and myostatin-related pathways.
