About VIP
VIP mediates many of its biological effects through VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors, both of which are G protein-coupled receptors. Activation of these receptors stimulates adenylyl cyclase, leading to increased intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels and regulation of downstream signalling pathways. Additional signalling mechanisms, including calcium-associated pathways, may also be involved depending on the experimental system.
